Sister Circle Facilitator
As mentioned in My Storybook Life, I was a founding member of the Sisters of the Sacred Circle in Santa Cruz County, California, back in 1989. At one time we met on New Moons for Crafts, Full Moons for Healing and Holy Days for rituals and magic, not to mention hikes and field trips in between! This amazing circle of women was a huge part of my life for almost 30 years, and I thank each and every one of my sisters from the bottom of my heart. My life is richer for knowing each of you. Girlfriends Save Lives!
When we started our circle, we learned from books, and we experimented. We started with the premise that we would share leading the circle, and each sister would lead it "Her Way." We had no rules at first, but after a year began to record our "Understandings" to avoid (wait for it) misunderstandings. Annually, we would review the Understandings together and make agreed upon changes. This worked fairly well as it gave us a way to keep the circle alive and meaningful to all the participants.
One year Antara started a newsletter, The Circle's Web, which name changed from time to time but was a key tool in keeping us connected. After a year, I took over the duties of writing the newsletter and eventually, started and maintained our website.
In 2017, Antara and I decided it was time for us to "pass the baton," retire from holding the energy for the circle and leading the rituals. When we made our announcement, all the other women on the Mother Board (11 other women) chose to retire, too! We had a formal closing ceremony on Lammas (August 2nd) shortly before both Antara & I left the area. Many of the women continue meeting in Santa Cruz on the High Holy Days on a more casual basis. We started meeting with them by Zoom during Covid, and sometimes we still Zoom together.
